Sponsored Projects Review Begins This Fall

UC Davis will soon undergo a routine external audit of Research & Development (R&D) activities related to sponsored projects. This audit is part of the FY25 UG Single Audit being conducted by PwC to ensure compliance with federal regulations, institutional policies, and sponsor requirements.

What to Expect

As part of this process, a limited number of awards will be selected for review. Contracts and Grants Accounting (CGA) will contact principal investigators (PIs) and departments with selected awards to schedule individual meetings and to provide guidance and support throughout.

Scope

The audit process will focus on several areas, including but not limited to:

  • Effort certifications and payroll allocations
  • Allowability and allocability of expenditures
  • Cost sharing and matching commitments
  • Subrecipient monitoring
  • Timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting
  • Adherence to Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)

What You Need to Do

In preparation for this audit, we ask that all departments:

Review all current and past R&D project documentation for completeness and accuracy.Ensure effort certifications are up to date and reflect actual work performed.

  • Verify that expenditures are properly documented, allowable, and allocable to the appropriate funding sources.
  • Confirm that subrecipient monitoring procedures have been followed and documented.
  • Respond promptly to any requests for information or documentation from CGA.

We appreciate your continued cooperation in maintaining UC Davis’s high standards of research compliance. Please know that CGA is available to assist with any questions or concerns as we work through this process together.
